UK Vodafone FFTH - Help with WAN setup

I have just put together my 2nd OPNsense rig, the previous one I ran for just over a year.
This was sat behind the truly awful Virgin Media cable modem in bridge mode - this smoothed out so many of the problems, but ultimately this couldn't fix abysmal customer service! - it was so bad I took them to OFCOM and as apology VM paid out £230 

Only a few weeks ago I escaped Virgin for Vodafone fibre.
The supplied modem seems OK, but no bridge mode + it seems to be a mixed bag of problems  - I would rather head off issues before they start by swapping this out for OPNsense.
Initially I tried running the original rig behind the Vodafone modem, but this was double NAT.

Unhappy with the old rig big box & full sized PC power supply - I decided on a new smaller more power frugal rig, opted for a used HP730 - just add SSD & the old Nic + fresh install of OPNsense and then ran into a few issues I had not experienced before, basically my WAN says its up, but there is no access to internet and it also seems not keen to talk to my switch.

I got all the login details from Vodafone, user name, password + they mentioned PPPoE and Vlan 101.
Reading up I found a few contradictory posts online, some saying Vlan does not need to be set up, others questioning PPPoE - but that may have been years old and New Zealand.
Some YT vids that always seem to be set up for lab work sat behind several tiers of network, but dont seem to explain basic setup. All together, it has just been very confusing.

I suspect I have missed something simple - BTW I classify myself as an enthusiastic IT amateur, more into hard ware than jargon - hoping someone can help with some hand-holding to run through set up & get the correct settings in place - my thanks in advance

Is it gigafast full fibre to an ONT into your house? If so, VLAN 911 seems to be the order of the day.
