Automated Updates after successful staging environment?

Hi all,

I am playing around with OPNsense and I am really impressed by its capabilities.
However, I am now looking into automating the maintenance process at bit, and I am stuck.

What I am looking for:

• Clone my production system into an "QA" or "staging" environment
• Enable automated updates in this staging area.  (preferrably both minor and major releases)
• Optional: conduct series of tests in the staging area
• report success messages back into  ? ? ? ?
• monitor those success messages in the production environment and conduct updates automatically

I do not expect to configure this in the GUI. 
But are there any hints how I could achieve something like this? -- How would I hook into the upgrade process with a script?
