Monitoring WAN Connection and Rebooting Firewall if disconnected

Good afternoon all. I used to have a CRON job that would run every 15 minutes to do a "ping check" to make sure my OPNSense router can still reach the internet and, if it couldn't, reboot my device to get a clean connection. This was handy if I was on the road because I need the router to reboot if connectivity stopped working and I wasn't home to do it.
I'm wondering if there's a better way to do this using another tool to check the WAN to see if I lose connection to the internet and have the router reboot. I think I read somewhere that someone is using MONIT to do this, but I haven't used MONIT before. Am I correct on that? If so, how would I configure?
Thank you for any assistance in advance.
