WAN interface flapping with 22.1.2

As a heads up, usually most providers allow you to switch devices if you call them. You simply need to give them your MAC address and it works.

My solution right now is: I have changed the MAC address within the eprom of the WAN NIC. There exists a tool called eeupdate.exe (can be found via Google, it's not official by Intel) which can do this on many Intel NIC's. Now with the "physical" changed MAC, I don't need to spoof it any longer and so no flapping...

The common denominator in this thread seems to be MAC spoofing. Why is this necessary?

many, myself included, have experienced this issue since the 22.x upgrade despite not using MAC spoofing.

I just found this post and figured it would be helpful to people here who are watching it for any updates / progress.

For people who are doing MAC spoofing, the port flapping was caused by a bug that was introduced in 22.1.2.

It's been fixed as of this commit thanks to Franco:

Just confirming that 22.7.1 seems to fix this issue for me (I was NOT using MAC spoofing)...

I'm having an issue at one of my sites with flapping of the wan interface.
I am NOT using IPS or MAC Spoofing.

The two sites use an identical Protectli VP-2410. One site has the issue, one site does not. Basically the exact same config on the two sites.

Any one have any information on how I can troubleshoot this to see if it's an issue with the firewall or with the cable modem?

Try upgrading to 22.7.4.... This has fixed all the WAN Flapping (or flipping and not returning) for me...

Yesterday I upgraded to 22.7.5 and lost WAN connection 3 times since then. Today I went back to 21.7.8.
This is still a problem.
I have a Gigabyte GA-J3455N-D3H motherboard with integrated 2x Realtek NICs.

The original issue reported here was indeed introduced in 22.1.2 (check the title) and 100% confirmed fixed in 22.7.1. Today, this thread is so convoluted and overloaded with different issues that posting here with "me too" is the least effective way to get to the bottom of any other issue that looks the same on the surface.

Yes I also had the same issue when 22.1.2 was introduced as I wrote about at the beginning of this thread when I had to go back to 21.7.8 same as now.

Yep, and as I said if you have this issue on 22.7.1 or above it's NOT that issue even if it looks like it, or you have two issues one of which was fixed.

What this episode teaches us is that network card drivers can suck when spoofing MAC addresses... maybe in conjunction with specific chipsets and the issue could be more prevailing in FreeBSD 13 (22.x and up) where we don't have direct influence on.

I found this post and adding that my WAN started "flapping" and I have been searching desperately how to fix, as it's knocking down my entire network.  I am NOT doing Mac spoofing. 
I came on with OPNSense around 22.7.3 and have not experienced it until 22.7.10.  I tried to revert to 22.7.9, but the flapping was more frequent.  The only consistent log when it occurs is this...
