Fritzbox 5530 and OPNsense??

I have a SAK CH internet connection with a provided Fritzbox...

It gives the OS an internal IP and not the WAN IP.

I have tried to connect a SFP capable switch to convert the fiber to Ethernet to no avail.

I only get the internet going when using DHCP on WAN and connecting through the Fritzbox....

Any ideas to how to circumvent the damn thing and run OS directly on the fiber?

I'm not familiar with that provider, being in a different country, so this might be incorrect information in this specific case.
The fibre in the UK is converted from optical to electrical with a device provided by the ISP. The router gets the WAN address by DHCP. That sounds like what you might have, the Fritzbox gets into router mode. Gets WAN (public from ISP) and allocates LAN network and your OPN if is connected to the LAN then will get a private address.
You need to put the Fritzbox or another device that can, in bridge mode.

Did you talk to the provider? Maybe they have a custom firmeware.

I can't find anything on 5590, but 5490 is apparently capable of doing bridge mode, loosing some functionality (phone, TV)...

What do you get in the Fritzkiste under "Internet" "Zugangsdaten"? Nothing looking like bridge mode?

Its not able to run in true bridgemode...

I have talked to the provider and they are sending me IP info and a mediaconverter for testing purposes.

I have an SFP capable switch lying here ready for testing.

So lets see.
