Would this bare minimum OPNsense setup work?

Dear OPNsense community,

I'd like to create a bare minumum wifi network using just an OPNsense box and a Unify U6 Lite AP.
The OPNsense box has two network interfaces. One connected to the ISPs cable modem, the other NIC connected to the Unify AP (with a poe injector between). It could be called a bare minimum setup:

[ISP Cable Model] <--> [OPNSense box] <--> [Unify U6 Lite to provide WIFI]

The question is: Would this setup work? Or is a router in between OPNsense and the AP required?
I've seen some posts where routers were used, but because the WIFI is used at a small home office, an additional router appears to be overkill. So if somehow possible, I'd like to get the WIFI up and running with just the AP and the OPNsense box. Question is, would that (form a technical point of view) work?
If that would work, is there anything that needs to be considered when setting up OPNsense? I.e. how to tell OPNsense it should configure the AP?

Your advise is very much appreciated,
Thank you,

Hi TheFriendlyStranger,

In my understanding OPNsense includes all functions of an router.

So your planned setup looks plausible too me. In my opinion you can go ahead with your idea.

Kind Regards
Thomas

Absolutely this will work. Set the modem in bridge mode and let OPNsense handle DHCP, DNS and everything else. That includes giving your AP an IP
