Local Domain Specified in OPNsense not Working Except for Firewall

Hi,

Pardon if this is a stupid question, but I am not a networking expert. I want to use the local domain specified in OPNsense for the services on my LAN, but it doesn't seem to work.

For example, I have the hostname "firewall" specified in general settings and "jayc.lan" specified under domain.

This works and I am able to reach the WebUI at http://firewall.jayc.lan but it doesn't work for any other services.

I have a number of DHCP static mappings configured with the hostname field filled out, but I can't reach them at http://hostname.jayc.lan or http://hostname or really anything actually other than by using the IP.

Is this meant to be the default functionality? I assume it would be very beneficial and probably default functionality to be able to use the domain? Especially for non-static services...

Is there a way I can enable the above to use the local domain specified? What am I missing?

Thanks in advance!

What dns server did you setup on opnsense? Unbound? If so you add a records in there or ptr records.

Thanks for the reply!

This appears to have led me in the correct direction.

I enabled two checkboxes to get this working:

1. Register DHCP Leases
2. Register DHCP Static Mappings

Thanks!
