Plugins orphaned, unable to view available plugins

I'm a noob where opnsense is concerned and have just deployed a 20.1 firewall. I've installed a couple of plugins and am using mostly the automatically created firewall rules. When I try to add more plugins, the ones I've installed say (orphaned) and I can't see any other plugins. I have "prefer IPv4 over IPv6" checked and am using default for the "Firmware mirror". When I click "check for updates" I get an error: "Timeout while connecting to the selected mirror." Does anyone have a suggestion on what I've got wrong or where I might check? I've tried selecting other mirrors but to no avail.

check if your DNS does resolve Names.
Had to play around with DNS and Unbound to fix it.
- System - General -DNS
- Services - Unbound - General (enable Forwarding Mode)

Thanks ArminF, that seems to have done it.
