Hi there
I'm planning a new rig on which I'd like to run OPNsense 24/7 in a VM. I plan to use unRAID as a hypervisor, which allows to pass-through PCI devices. So I'll probably pass through the NIC directly to OPNsense. Now my question is which network card I should install on the WAN side, where I have a 10 GBit/s connection (RJ45, Cat6). Internally I will use vNICs to the other VMs and 1 GBit NICs I already own.

A single 10 GBit port is enough.
Thank you very much for your recommendations!

This is a list of tested 10-Gbit NICs in the BSD database: https://bsd-hardware.info/?view=search&name=10-Gigabit&typeid=network

Intel    PCI    network    82599ES 10-Gigabit SFI/SFP+ Network Connection / Ethernet Server Adapter X520-2
Intel    PCI    network    82599ES 10-Gigabit SFI/SFP+ Network Connection
Intel    PCI    network    Ethernet Controller 10-Gigabit X540-AT2 (Super)
Intel    PCI    network    Ethernet Controller 10-Gigabit X540-AT2 / Ethernet 10G 2P X540-t Adapter

Why not ESXi from VmWare??

Much better performance and drivers.
