I am currently using OPNsense and, while reviewing the official Dynamic DNS documentation, I noticed that the traditional ddclient backend is described as being in "sunsetting" mode, with a native Python-based backend provided as an alternative maintained by the project. However, the os-ddclient plugin is still available in the system, which raises some uncertainty regarding its current support and maintenance status. My question is: is ddclient still officially supported and actively maintained within OPNsense, or is it only kept for compatibility purposes while the native backend becomes the default solution? Is there any plan for complete deprecation of the ddclient backend in future releases?

Is there another option to implement a dynamic DNS since I can't switch providers?

The os-ddclient plugin supports both its own native backend as wells as the legacy ddclient. The os-ddclient plugin is not going away, only the ddclient backend might at some point.

So the way to go is using os-ddclient and selecting the native backend. If your provider is not yet listed as a supported service, you can create your own configuration using the 'custom' service.

Cheers
