For your DNS issue, I'd double-check that the DNS settings on your MacBook are pointing to the correct server. Sometimes the DHCP server might be handing out the wrong DNS IP. Another thing you could try is setting up a static DNS on your MacBook, like Google's (8.8.8.8), to see if that resolves the issue.
