Internal SSD not recognised during install on Dell Wyse 5020

As per title. I am an opnsense N00b but come from a limited knowledge of pfsense running on the same hardware.
I successfully booted a live version of opensense from usb, then tried using the installer account to install on the local SSD. I could not get it to recognise/mount the drive. I then tried an SATA to usb adapter, and the installer can see the SSD so I installed opensense there. I installed the SSD back into its slot and it does successfully boot as far as the point of trying to mount the root directory, which then fails.

Any ideas what I may be doing wrong or tips on what to try?

I believe this is the SATA controller: 00:11.0 SATA controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] FCH SATA Controller [AHCI mode] (rev 40) (this info from https://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/wyse/d/dx0q/)

TIA

Check the HCL at https://www.freebsd.org/releases/14.1R/hardware/

You may need to pick a different adapter from that list. Does your motherboard have PCIe slots you can use?

Thanks I did previously check that list but couldn't see my specific adapter. However, I know that somehow that SSD must be supported by freeBSD because I have an identical setup running pfsense. But, I got a pre-built image for that one so did not have to install it. There is no other adapter available other than USB as I mentioned.

I can't remember the options on the initial console, but can you drop to a shell either before the installation or after, and look for any clues in dmesg and what gpart shows ?
