another Plex.direct question

I am a little confused.
I have port forwarding working with Opnsense, but when I try to use my AppleTV on my LAN to watch Plex, it shows me that I have an indirect connection. I also tried with a desktop connected to the same LAN, and it gets direct playback instead of indirect.
This confuses me as to why one device works with my Plex server, and another on the same LAN works another way.
I read that I need to do something with plex.direct
I thought I should put it as a whitelisted domain with the unbound DNS blocklists and reboot unbound, but that didn't make a difference.
What am I doing wrong?

Hey I also have Plex on Apple TV and it plays on original quality (so direct connection I guess).
What I had to do is create a FW rule allowing connections from my Apple TV to any private address on port TCP 32400. Before doing that I had a lot of blocked requests on different random private IPs on that port.
