OPNsense crashing on AMD pro a10-8700b system

Here's the specs for my system
hp elitedesk 705 g1 microtower pc
AMD PRO A10-8700B 4 core cpu
4GB ram
120GB SSD
INTEL 82576 x2 four port gigabit NIC
The issue I am running into is that OPNsense is crashing/freezing (doesn't power off or reboot just kills network connection and doesn't respond to input) usually after significant WAN demand, usually I am able to do as much as I want on the CLI or webUI but as soon as I run a speed test it crashes. That said it has crashed in the same way without any network activity triggering it.
What I've done so far:
My first suspicion was the NIC, it was intel and had worked in a previous OPNsense system, but this was a highly modified HP OEM board with a laptop chip, I was suspicious of its higher power draw (over ten watts peak), so I ordered a i210 single port NIC off of amazon and tested it on WAN with the built in Broadcom gigabit port on the motherboard for LAN, and still ran into the same issue.
I also tested the whole system on a Ubuntu portable install and was able to get full gigabit speeds on all three NICS (82576, i210, and broadcom). I also ran a stress test on the system in Ubuntu and didn't run into any system instability.
Next I tried installing Proxmox on the system and OPNsense under that. I allocated 2gb of ram and the 82576 PCIE device to the OPNsense VM on Proxmox. However I still ran into the same crashing/freezing issue, this time happening to both Proxmox and the VM (Proxmox had been working fine before that).
At this point I'm at the end of my rope, I've tried every PCIE slot and different power outlets as well.
My next suspicion is a bad PSU but that doesn't make sense why everything would work fine on Ubuntu and not OPNsense. Maybe FreeBSD or OPNSense doesn't like this niche CPU but then why would I run into the same issue on a Proxmox VM.
Any suggestions?
