Is my hardware adequate?

Hi, I have a spare desktop and have installed Opnsense 16.1 64bit. I am able to access web admin GUI so I think I installed it correctly. My hardware as follows:

DELL Optiplex GX620 Dual Core
Intel EM64T Pentium D CPU 3.40GHz
240GB SSD
4GB DDR2 SDRAM
Onboard Gigabit LAN
2 NICs 3COM 10/100 (plans to change to Gigabit ones later)

I know above spec is old but will it work for my small home LAN. At home I have 4 desktops, 3 laptops and 4 smartphones/tablets. At night all are being used simultaneously.

Can a keen eye tell me if my hardware is up to the task or do I need a quad core? Thanks

What is your WAN speed?

You mean internet speed? Its ADSL very slow at 3.5mbps. My home network is gigabit all around except my test firewall machine.

In that case your hardware is overkill by any means :-)
Hobbyist at home, sysadmin at work. Sometimes the first is mixed with the second.

 ;D thanks good t know  ;D

tbh, I'd get a cheap Intel Atom device. Those fancy old machines like yours consume a lot power while doing literally nothing. Even a small brick like a Lexcom UNO 3V700D-VR10U (VIA CPU with TDP 7,0 W..) will be fine.
