Remote OPNSense and auto-reverting to earlier config?

I have a remote OPNSense router where I really don't want a config change to make it inaccessible to me without having to physically go to the router.

Ideally it would be great to have OPNSense revert to a previous config if after some time (5 minutes) I do not tell it to "keep" the new config.

Would a reverting script and cron provide some of this basic function and protection?

That does probably not help you with your current situation but ZFS boot environments are precisely created for that purpose. I.e. boot into the updated BE once, and if the system is power-cycled afterwards, boot into the previous one.

I can think of a method to achieve this via command line *now* if you run on ZFS, but it would be great to see some support in the UI, of course.

Let's give the devs some time to manage the switch to FreeBSD 13 and open a feature request after that, shall we?

I can give a command line method a try when the next regular update to 21.7 is published and report back.

I would welcome any possible solution or hack for the time being.

An eventual officially supported solution would be really welcome in the end.
