Hi!

I'm running pfsense at the moment and I want to switch to opnsense, but the installation freezes with every version I've tried.

My hypervisor is bhyve on FreeBSD. The behavior is the same on both version 12.2 and 13.0.

More specifically it reached the point where it reports the SSL fingerprints and then freezes. Breaking with Ctrl-c does not work. I've tried with the 21, 20 and 19 branches of opnsense and they all display the same behavior. I've tested both the dvd and vga images.

I've also tried writing the nano image directly to the virtualmachine's drive via dd, but that exhibited the same behavior when it booted.

My hardware is an Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 with 256GB of ram. The vm has 1 cpu and 1GB of memory. I've also tried with both more cores and more memory, but that didn't change anything.

I've tested using both bhyveload and uefi firmware for the virtualmachine.

I could only get the serial image to show a login prompt so far so I can confirm that this is working as expected on all the old and new serial images at least.

Cheers,

Thank you.

I've migrated to opnsense now and everything seems to work.

Great! In general (I run a lot of bhyve instances at home and at work) I recommend to always use serial consoles for Linux and FreeBSD guests. Unix does not need no stinking graphics card and the VNC implementation in bhyve leaves quite some room for improvement, anyway. Leave that for Windows guests  ;)
