Another user making the switch

Hi all,
I'm sure you've seen an increase of users from pf on your forum and I'm another one
. I hope this is the right place to ask my question, if not mods please feel free to move.
I have about 10 deployments with their support for my clients and while I don't mind that they are charging for commercial use, I don't like the fact they are closing the source code. That's an important piece for my management.
My support subscription runs out with them in March of this year and when that happens I will be looking to move to OPNsense. I have read through numerous posts on this forum as well as the documentation and I think the migration will be pretty straight forward.
I see that support is available to purchase which is great as that is also a requirement. I also see that you have a business edition that has multi-instance management and a selective upgrade path, which is great and a plus! My question is when I switch to OPNsense should I use the business edition for the extra features and support discounts? I am pretty sure both are open source and I would have no pushback from my management team on the extra money for the business edition. If business edition isn't open source, I will just move to OPNsense as there is no concern about the project being abandoned.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome aboard! I ran pfSense for a while (running OPNsense now) and even thought about giving it a go again until I read the recent announcement about pfSense Plus. When I realized they were going closed source, that was a big red flag for me. I'm sticking with OPNsense. I think many others are going to come over for the same reason. I'm not sure how to answer your questions about the business offerings of OPNsense, but I'm sure someone else has the answer.

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, that was a red flag for us too, and by looking at their forums many of us feel the same way.
