Hi,

I've jsut got a Qotom Mini PC that I have installed OPNsense on.

I'm a networking newbie and I'm not sure how to proceed.

In my current setup I've disabed Wifi on my IPS's wireless router and connected it to my Asus WAN port. And using my ASUS RT-AC88U in wireless router mode.

I want to sandwich in the OPNsense firewall at let it handle everything except for the wireless access point.

I imagine that I have to plug in my ISP's router into the OPNsense box's WAN port and connect the ASUS router via LAN. But before I do that, do I need login and configure my ASUS router to AP mode first? Power everything off, then connect the devices as described above. Power on the OPNsense box and AP, and then hopefully being able to access the OPNSense web gui.

Because I have a MacBook Pro with no ethernet port, 😀 I can't connect the OPNsense box directly to it. For this to work I need to configure the interfaces correctly in the Live environement before loggin in as installer and saving the configuration?

Is it correct if I configure the LAN to something like 192.168.100.1 with DHCP server enabled? And leave the WAN with  default?

Sorry for the wordy and confusing post. I'm just trying to figure this out in my head before jumping in and I am confused 🤔.

If someone has any links to YouTube or blog posts, I would really appreciate that.
Thank you.

If the Mac is your only computer, I would start with something like this: https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/computer-accessory/ue300/

You'll inevitably lock yourself out of the network otherwise with factory reset as the only option  :o
