Hey Guys
Having some trouble with my new OPNsense build.

I have configured it currently in a VM and have the WAN port connected to the LAN of my current router. In this setting it works as expected and I can get internet traffic on all devices connected.

When I remove the current router and connect my OPNsense directly to my ISP the internet traffic stops. I can see I get the new WAN address. Tried rebooting without any luck.

Any ideas?

What ISP? Do they habe some kind of router lock?

Aussie Broadband using FTTP. No they support MYOD. I am wondering if maybe because I have connected with my old router which is a Netgear whether they are now restricting the MAC. Is a very strange issue

Don't know this ISP. What kind of connection is it? DHCP or pppoe?
If you think it might be a mac restriction you could spoof the OPNsense wan MAC address with the one your netgear has.

But if you get an IP on the wan side it should usually work. Can you ping 8.8.8.8 from the OPNsense directly?
Maybe it's NAT related.

Quite easy to check: Take the Netgears MAC and enter it on the WAN config GUI page of OPNsense...

Have one such lousy ISP here too. If you try to connect with new MAC it can take minutes to hours before the connection works.

Ok issue has been resolved. The ISP was not blocking the MAC however they did have a 30minute DHCP lease timeout so because I didn't wait over 30 minutes (depending on when the last handshake was) I would not be able to get traffic
