So I have never set up OPNsense before but have set up PF sense.  Any rate burining the inflated image file:
OPNsense-19.1.4-OpenSSL-vga-amd64.img to an 8 GB USB stick and installing on a  Firewall Micro Appliance with 4X Intel Gigabit Ports, Intel Atom E3845, AES-NI by Protectli, results in the following.

Free BSD starts to boot, get to the menu, don't press anything and it continues to load showing several /boot/kernel/... lines.

After about 100 or so of these lines with different info we get to:

/boot/kernel/ng_vlan.ko size 0x2ee0 at 0x2585000
Booting...
/

That is where things hang.  The cursor is blinking under a frozen spinny on the last line represented by the "/".  Booting... is shown with a blue background.  And things are stuck.

I get similar behavior on an old desktop which used to run windows.  I have tried every flavor of this software and all freeze some earlier some later.  But none of them install on any of the 3 very different platforms I have tried.

Same here. Have spent days trying to get it to work. See https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=12342.0
NEXCOM DNA120 aka Sophos SG115 | Intel Atom E3827 Bay Trail Dual Core 1.7GHz | 4GB DDR3 | 64GB SSD

It means the console option presented by the HW/BIOS is not currently enabled in the image. The boot likely continues fine. This seems to be an UEFI thing...
