[solved] Ipv6 default gateway link local address?

Hi.

May some basic stupid question, but the whole IPv6 topic is quite new for me.

I've configured a basic IPv6 setup (internal LAN) just for testing purposes.

Which IPv6 address should be advertised to the client as default gateway? The static IPv6 address or the link-local address?

In my setup the link-local address is published to the clients, is this the intended behaviour?

IPv6 will automatically pick up the default gateway link local address and use it if it there is a router advertising on the network. If you do not want that then you need to disable Router Advertisements but then it starts to get a lot more complex and you'll run into all sorts of issues. If you want the clients to also have an IPv6 address that you have defined, then set Router Advertisements to assisted or managed ( managed will not work with Android clients though ) and of course setup dhcpv6 on the LAN too.


Simply put yes, a link-local address as the default gateway is quite normal. Below is a screen capture from the PC I'm using.
