going back...
QuoteWhen my connection goes down, the gateway and monitoring IPs change to the IP of my cable modem, which causes the gateway to be marked as online as the cable modem responds to all pings.

maybe pictures of before and after
and the case where it change to a modem/local IP

goto
Interfaces->overview-> select the interface, you will see the assigned IP

thank you for response

it is NOT advisable to use your ISP gateway as monitor, because there could be cases wherein you have "full" connection to your ISP but there backbone is down or there external access outside is down. in which case their gateway will respond to your pings.

you should set known "good" internet IP, usually public DNS IP address
8.8.8.8, 1.1.1.1 or 9.9.9.9 and their secondary IPS
these IPs will rarely go down, and will ensure that your ISP has "Internet" connection to ping them.

this is usually an issue with your DNS or a rule to allow internet connection.
once connected, can your client access lan or each other?

you need to open your external port on the WAN1 or WAN2. by default open will "close" all ports.
you need to create a Firewall->NAT->port forward

which will open you wan ports...

this assume that your internet IP is also reachable and not blocked by your ISP

there seems to be a recurrence of the issue but for now I'm not quite sure to replicate.
connection is a fiber internet, it is always on.
but not as frequent as the issue before (also not as easily replicable)

what I notice is that if the connection, goes down for a "long" time, the gateway will somehow be tagged down indefinitely. I tried restating the system:gateway service. but it is still tagged as down.
so again, I click edit, do nothing and just click save. the connection will be good again.

i'm on OPNsense 22.7.10_2-amd64

it does work for and oakla update for freebsd13...

is it possible to select which wan to test, can the UI be updated for WAN selection
may it be by gateway or by gateway group to test it speed test directly via firewall
#45
does it work without transparent proxy?

captive portal should authenticate first I think
