Yes I am actually using a high end Cat 6 shielded twisted pair cable.
I will ratchet it down to Cat 5e and try different ports and cables.
Agree, I really do not want to manually force 1000baseT if I dont have to.

I am thinking I need a newer/different ethernet switch, but here is the situation:
1) I am using a Cat6 cable factory made
2) This is an older NetGear GS5716TPP but all ports capable of 1000baseT
3) Setting both sides to autonegotiate, I only get 100meg
4) Setting both sides to 1000baseT Full, no connection at all.

I do have many other devices on the switch that are indeed connected at 1000baseT.
I would not worry about it but I have a Gig home internet service.
The WAN side to the carrier fiber NID is running at 2500baseT full (in auto mode)

So I have internal LAN side running at 100meg full and WAN side running at 2500baseT full

Perhaps a switch incompatibility?
What switches are folks using that you know work?

WooHOO, thanks so much, disabling VGA console and USB based serial ports did the trick.

Yes it is enabled.
I dont think I would get the bootup messages via console if it wasnt.
So I am getting to the console fine, I just dont get a prompt to issue any commands.

Hello, I am trying to get console on this unit.  When I plug the USB console into my Win10 PC, my system enumerates COM5. On bootup, I see all the console messages, But once the system is booted, I cannot interact with the console. I hit enter several times to get a prompt and nothing.  The last messages I see are the interfaces coming online and my HTTPS and SSH  SHA256 config.

I am using putty if that makes a difference.
