Dear god this thread was innumerably helpful. I'm on OPNSense 25.7.10, and my road warrior OpenVPN (Instances) connection wasn't resolving IPV4 WAN addresses, as stated above, and was able to get it working! Leaving this here for any stray wanderers having the same problem.
- Toggled Firewall -> NAT -> Outbound: Mode setting from "Automatic" to "Hybrid"
- Add manual rule over WAN interface with the source address either using the built in "OpenVPN net" alias, or the IP of your tunnel exit address which should whatever you specified in the instance. (For me it's 10.1.9.0/24) No further edits should be necessary.
- Save and Apply.
