Yes I have been using port 0 but I also figured out what the problem was ... the hard drive got corrupted somehow.  I also figured out how to connect to the console and reinstall ... the opnsense documentation describes what to do pretty well.  Now that I know what I am doing it should be smooth sailing from here.  Thank you!

Hi community, I have a DEC3840 that I am having some difficulty connecting to and configuring ... I would appreciate some help and suggestions to troubleshoot.

I have a DEC3840 that I am trying to connect to with a Debian laptop.  When I connect an ethernet cable to port 0, I expect to be assigned a DHCP IP like 192.168.1.100 or .101, but the device never assigns an IP ... I get errors that say that the network connection has been disconnected.  I have tried connecting my laptop and cable to another router and I get an IP assigned by DHCP automatically, so I believe the issue is with opnsense and not the laptop or cable.  I also tried setting a static IP of 192.168.1.101 on the laptop while plugged in to port 0, but I still cannot connect to the web interface.

Something is wrong here, and it is probably something so simple that I never even considered it.  Please help

I have also tried connecting by serial to install a fresh copy of opnsense.  I followed the instructions at https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/how-tos/serial_access.html and believe I can connect to the device using the "screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200" command as root.  If I press enter after that, the terminal says "OK" which makes me think that I am connected, but then the console basically stops responding to keypresses after that.  I don't know where to go from there.  I have had less luck using the minicom command (the terminal is even less responsive than the screen command) and the putty window closes immediately after trying to open the connection.

Appreciate any suggestions you can recommend get connected to either the web interface or to the console ... thank you!
