FWIW I just ran into the same issue, tried prepending the \000 to the client ID and it works now...
My main goal is to ensure that I get the same IP address on BOTH WIFI and Ethernet interfaces so that I can seamlessly switch back and forth (I used to do that years ago and it worked very well for me).
