I had a N100-based i225 4-port with 1/1Gb connection, download have always been 1Gb but upload between 500-600Mb, never figured out why.
I happened to have a NUC 13 Pro i7-1360 with i226 collecting dust, so I ordered the extra NIC-module. It connects to M.2 PCI-E/SATA cards place and shows up as native i226V so all well.
Turned out that download was around 200-300Mb. After some time in the world wide wait solution came up, disable PCI-E ASPM in BIOS power settings. Now I have a totally overkill OPNSense box, but I'm finally getting my money's worth, a symmetric 1/1Gb connection :)
