My network uses the same subnet as the modem and I still can't reach modem GUI. Any ideas what I should do?

Hi all,
Noob here. Just installed OPNsense yesterday and now struggling to get into my modem's GUI. Modem's IP is 192.168.1.254 and my network and the OPNsense appliance (192.168.1.1) are on the same subnet. Modem is in bridge mode and OPNsense WAN interface is getting an IP address from the ISP via DHCP.
I can access internet but cannot connect to modem's gui. Ping is returning request timeout. Please help :'(
