General Discussion / New install: No DNS?
« on: January 10, 2024, 04:07:39 am »
New install here. Right now I do not have my OPNsense router connected on the WAN port. I want to get everything set up and then I plan to drop it in and remove my existing router.
Right now the problem I am having is I can't check for updates. I have my DNS settings (System-Settings-General) with 192.168.0.1 as the first entry (and use gateway set to none), which is the IP address for my current router, not my OPNsense router. I also have 8.8.8.8 in there too. When I go to check for updates, I get "Could not find the repository on the selected mirror.". And when I go to Interfaces-Diagnostics-DNS Lookup, and if I enter pkg.opnsense.org in the Hostname, and leave Server blank, I get a response from 192.168.0.1. The web interface works fine, and when I try to ping google.com from the shell, I get "No route to host".
I did try toggling some of the four checkboxes in the Networking section under System-Setting-General and that never made a difference either (and now I can't remember what's the best way to have them, so I have that going for me too).
