Is there a place to submit ideas? :)

So, I was able to use the + and add the switch under the IP I stated. However, it was already added under its own dynamic IP and was working well. After OPNSense appliance reboot, it came back under that same IP address and its still working.

The issue is now I have that switch listed twice under the leases, and I cant seem to be able to delete the one I set with the static Ip. There isn't a delete icon next to it?

Hey all,

This might be a really stupid question but...

I installed OPNSense on a NVME drive on my appliance. I had also tried to installed PFSSense, but did not have success with it, so would like to uninstall it and keep OPNSense.

How can I access the contents on the drive without running another OS the appliance with some type of file explorer utility? Can this be done via FREEBSD (that's the underlying OS behind OPENSense, as I understand it?)

My goal is to just have OPNSense on it; nothing else unnecessary on the drive.

Is there some command prompt magic (seeking specific syntax) from the console I can use to see what's there and delete what I don't want? I think it might be organized into partitions?

I am NOT good with syntax, so hoping you can show me what I need to copy paste to get this done. ;) (pllleeaassse)

Thanks!

You are awesome, thank you SO much! :)

Ok so now that I found it, how can I permanently assign the switch an IP so I can access it at same place each time? Is that a setting in OPNSense or switch?

(I am assuming it will get a new IP address (say, if I ever needed to reboot it) since Its now DHCP and not static?)

Thanks!

I found it thanks to your guidance around looking at the leases! You were right, the router assigned it a new IP despite that I had set a static IP. It was listed under the leases by model number which gave it away. ;)
Thanks so much! :)

Hardware and Performance / Cant find Switch on OPNSense
February 15, 2023, 08:47:41 PM
Hey guys,

I have OPNSense router firewall as 192.168.1.1. Latest build installed today at 12:30PM MST. (note this issue below was happening with the prior build as well, so don't think this is related to the new build)

I bought a new TP-LINK TL-SG3210XHP-M2 switch, and before connecting it to OPNSense, configured its IP to a static IP of 192.168.1.20, so it would not get its IP from DHCP. I was able to connect to it fine from a laptop, login to the admin GUI, etc.

Once I connected it to OPNSense, I was no longer able to log into it at that IP. The device isn't being found.

However, all of the clients connected to the switch are getting internet just fine. Traffic is moving through the switch.

Is there a setting in OPNSense I need to change to be able to access the switch?

Thanks!

Here is a new update form tonight....

ANQNIC60 is the "Marvell AQtion 10Gbit Network Adapter : Network link is lost." error.

Thanks, yes agree. I have literally replaced all NICS, switched and added this new OPNSense router.

My last resort is to change the Cat7 cable that runs across my house from office to the network room. I did accidentally cut it once, and has to resolder all the connections inside. Although a cable tester showed all connections were solid, its the only thing I can think of that could possible be a cause.

Also, looking at Windows Event viewers, the primary NIC on my client is throwing this error every so often. " Marvell AQtion 10Gbit Network Adapter : Network link is lost."

Hardware and Performance / Open DNS Servers
February 14, 2023, 02:42:22 AM
Hey guys,

On this page, this is where I can change the DNS servers I want to use at the OPNSense router level yes?

What do the "Use Gateway" settings do? Do I need to select something here to use the IPs I pasted?

See attached

Thanks!

Hardware and Performance / OPNSense Security Certificate

Hi All,

When I try to navigate to the admin site I get the attached error and have to accept the risks before being able to login an open it. Any ideas?

Thanks! Yes, agreed. I decided to do a reset of Windows OS on this client (I had been running an upgraded OS from 10 to 11 and I think that caused some issues with the NICS) Hoping this fresh install causes better stability on OPNSense and reduces the errors. I'll send an update later! :)

Also, I am pretty sure its this client as no other devices on my network are having issues. It may have something to do with the network adapters/registry? on this PC. (I added a screenshot of my adapters)

Hardware and Performance / Help with Console Log Messages
February 13, 2023, 08:24:53 PM
Hey guys,

Been having intermittent connectivity issues with my main desktop PC connected to my OPNSense router.

Here is a sccreenshot of some of the activity I am seeing in the log on console. Any ideas of what this means?

My Main PC is 192.168.1.169 which I have set to a static IP on the same subnet.

Interface ICG1 is assigned to my LAN (ICG0 is assigned to my WAN)

Thanks!
