Thanks for the suggestion.

I managed to get OPNsense installed now.
Procedure was to install pfSense  and use the dd command to write the OPNsense to the USB drive.
After that it boots without problems.
Strange that Rubus and other Windows tools can create the pfSense bootable drive, but not OPNsense.
Whatever...   it works.

I am trying to install OPNsense 21.7.1 on my PC. 

I downloaded 2 images files:
 OPNsense-21.7.1-OpenSSL-vga-amd64.img.bz2
 OPNsense-21.7.1-OpenSSL-serial-amd64.img.bz2
I tried both images.
I tried Rufus and balenaEtcher to write the images to USB.
I tried 3 different USB drives.
I tried 2 different PCs (old HP i7 desktop tower + not so old Lenovo laptop).
Little different messages, but same result. BTX loader halted. 

Long time ago, CraigHead suggested starting on the FreeBSD Release Mini-Memstick image:

That also fails. 

If I use exactly the same procedure, but use pfSense-CE-memstick-2.5.2-RELEASE-amd64.img.gz image, then installation gives me no problems at all.

Any suggestions?
Are there other (maybe older) OPNsense images I can try?
