General Discussion / Re: Plugin developement question
January 11, 2026, 01:21:09 AM
Upgrades, how far in advance are beta updates to the production version released by Opnsense, ? If I under take this, I would like to maintain it as well in a timely manor. I'm one guy so if this is to short, it may kill my idea.

Future questions:
Is there documentation on the official process for getting them put in the Plugin list? I have never been involved with an open source project before so I'm testing new waters. https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/software_included.html#plugins Does not give a lot of details on the process.

What the project is:
I would like to line it all out, but someone more familiar would push this out a lot faster than myself, so I am going to keep it to myself for a while yet.I'm sure I will let the cat out of the bag soon enough.

Many Thanks!

General Discussion / Plugin developement question
January 10, 2026, 05:11:16 PM
I am developing a plugin for OpnSense. I have looked through doc's and searched the forum. I would like to hear from anyone that has done it. Really looking for what issues you encountered. I believe it would be a long time before, if ever, it would be available. This is more for my use only for now.

Just curious if this was fixed From Github bug "ACME client and dns_opnsense.sh broken - "Invalid domain" #4964"

I am running version:

OPNsense 25.7.7_4-amd64

Will update this evening, but am curious if Lets Encrypt made the changes called out in the bug report? Both the cron job and running a cert renew fail. I have created a new API with cloudflare as well. Many Thanks!

My apologies, I did not think before I posted. I appreciate your work.

Funny this has had no response since July. I have had the same problem. I did not realize until today that my firewall did not actually upgrade.

General Discussion / Using a Server
July 10, 2021, 09:51:21 PM
I currently am using a Dell R610 server as a OPNSense firewall. 2-6 core cpu's, 64 gigs of ram and 6-600 gig SAS drives in hardware Raid6. This is my test bed. I am looking for insight for using a 10 gig card to a Cisco managed switch. I have this working currently on 1 gig built in cards, but want to know what 10 gig cards actually work on the current version?

I have several Mellanox and HP branded intel cards that are sfp+. So far they do not show up.

I have searched for a while on here and google with no luck.

My experience with HE required a 1280 MTU. This was through a sonicwall though, just know that it took a while to figure out which value worked. The value you use has to divide by 8 evenly for it to work. (1280/8=160, no remainder) I am going to be setting up HE this week on this OPNSence firewall to replace the Sonicwall. So I am in here searching for others that have blazed the trail already.
