@allebone You were fully right. It is a NordVPN problem.
I took a Mullvad 1 month connection to test. Configured wireguard and everything works including IMAP/SMTP.

Also I tried the following which works.

Have a firewall rule which routes the ports,465, 587, 993 and 995 to either the OpenVPN Client or the WAN directly and let all other traffic go through WG client, which works well.

I would like to get rid of the OpenVPN client and also make sure all traffic goes through VPN (using the WG client). Therefore I do not prefer the options above.

Thanks @allebone. You are right, in general it could be because the email provider is blocking the VPN service.

As I wrote, I excluded this by creating a OpenVPN client with the same NordVPN server and the email receive/send works without any problem. Only if I use the WG client with the same VPN server, the problem appears.

Any hint on how I could troubleshoot this?

I managed to configure Wireguard with NordVPN and it works amazingly well. The only problem I face is that emails with IMAP does not work (for example, gmail etc). I have a second openVPN client with the same NordVPN server and if I switch to that it works fine, without having to change any firewall rules. Any clue what the problem could be?
