General Discussion / Changing Static LAN IP address without losign web access?
« on: July 07, 2021, 03:54:12 am »
Apologies if I should have been able to construct a solution from earlier posts but I have encountered a simple configuration issue that is sending me in circles. I have successfully installed OPNsense on a Protectli FW3C (8GB Ram/240GB storage/coreboot BIOS/legacy BIOS setup with MBR partitioning scheme). The default IP address for the LAN, 192.168.1.1, which, unfortunately conflicts with the IP address associated with my WiFi router. I have attempted two fixes: (i) reload the OPNsense defaults then reset the address to a non-conflicting address on the console, (ii) change the IP address to the same two addresses in the GUI under Interfaces/LAN/Static IPv4 Configuration/IPv4 Address. After each of these attempts, I was unable to re-access the OPNsense installation via the LAN port, using the new addresses. The only way that I was able access the installation was by reloading the default settings again and using 192.168.1.1. My understanding from online documentation and earlier posts suggested that one of the two strategies for changing the IP address should have made the installation accessible under the new addresses. Any suggestions or links to helpful information for resetting the LAN address without losing access to the installation over a wired LAN connection would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
