General Discussion / All my ports are open?
March 03, 2022, 02:37:45 PM
Hi. I have a basic OPNsense setup, with a LAN interface for my Desktop, and a Wifi interface that has my AP. When I connect to a VPN and run a nmap scan on my public IP, it shows that all my ports are open? Is this normal or is there something critically wrong with my setup?
I am a noob to OPNsense, any help is appreciated.
My Firewall log gets spammed with the default deny rule from the VPN IP, then the port when I do a nmap scan, which makes me feel a bit more comfortable.
Why does nmap say ALL my ports are open though?

Hardware and Performance / Getting a lot of errors in?
September 04, 2021, 01:52:00 PM
Hey. So I am new to opnsense and have noticed that I am getting a lot of errors in on WAN. Does anyone have any idea on what could be causing this? I have a 50 meter cat 7 cable running from my ISP router to my opnsense router, all gigabit ports.
Here is a screenshot of my interface statistics: https://imgur.com/a/csWkLPH

Hey guys. So I recently bought a router from Aliexpress and I installed OPNsense on it. I was watching a few tutorial videos on OPNsense and Pfsense since I am new to these types of routers.
I remember watching one tutorial and the guy said it is recommended to put /var and /tmp as a RAM disk so it won't wear out my SSD, and it can also help with security. I see that I can do this in System > Settings > miscellaneous.
I tried Googling it, but I cannot find anything recent about this.
I have 8GB of RAM on my router, and idle I am at around 5% memory usage. So I have more than enough RAM to do so. But would there be any benefit? Would there be any risks?
