General Discussion / Re: Can't login as root
September 12, 2020, 09:09:57 PM
Hello ""127.0.0.1",

where you able to test the root access via the Tester?
"System: Access: Tester"

I would also suggest to check if there was any expiration date set on the root account.

Good Luck,

General Discussion / Re: VPN Split Tunnel & Netflix
September 12, 2020, 09:02:48 PM
Hi "errored out"

Thanks for your update. After spending sometime on this issue without getting it working, I have decided to try another VPN provider which worked with no issue.

I know this might sound extreme and might not be easy to consider, but my thought was why should I stick with a provider who does not want to invest to expand the support for their clients.

Thanks again,

General Discussion / VPN Split Tunnel & Netflix
August 13, 2020, 02:39:34 AM
Hello there,

I have setup OPNSense with OVPN client service. I am able to connect to the VPN provider and I can tunnel selected clients. However, On my TV which gets static IP address from OPNSense DHCP and being excluded from VPN tunnel, the Netflix is not working.

When I check the website ipleak.net from the TV, I can see it gets external IP from the ISP(104.x.y) , however, the DNS servers returned still shows as the one from the VPN provider (198.x.y) and this issue seems to be breaking Netflix.

I have set my TV to use static DNS server (manual) 9.9.9.9 and with that in-place I still see IPleak.net report that the DNS servers are the ones from the VPN provider (198.x.y).

Any thoughts on how can I exclude the smart TV from getting the VPN provider DNS?

Hi,

In my case, I have single internal subnet (192.168.1.0/24) with Smart TV that is being excluded from XV tunnel and has the DNS 9.9.9.9 is manually defined on it (not via DHCP).

With that in mind, the XV DNS server still gets enforced on my Smart TV and this breaks Netflix.

General Discussion / OpenVPN Client Split Tunnel
August 02, 2020, 07:32:54 PM
Hello there,

I just need guidance on how to configure Split-Tunnel for OpenVPN Client that I have configured on my OPNSense. My goal is to let few devices to route via the WAN interface, while most other devices to route through the OpenVPN tunnel.

Thanks,

I know it is not for ExpressVPN nor OPNsense specifically, but thought to share in case it helps.

All the best.

Hi Lar.hed,

Thanks for your prompt update. I double-checked and I confirmed that I have the DNS set already as 10.10.10.10 on the DHCP4 leases. I also tried the same from another client machine (Win10) and I get the same behavior (ping by IP works but does not work using FQDN).

Another test I just made is to type-in the IP address Manually on the clients with the same results as well (ping by IP works but does not work using FQDN).

I finally just tested by using 8.8.8.8 as DNS server on my DHCP leases and that solved the name resolution issue from the clients.

Thanks again for your help.

General Discussion / Name Resolution not working
July 22, 2020, 03:20:33 AM
Hello there,

I am trying to setup mini Lab with OPNSense. I am able to do Name Resolution from OPNSense, but not able to do it from the client VM. From the client, I am able to ping external IP addresses.

I have attached screenshots for my testing and how my mini-lab is configured. I would really appreciate if anyone can guide me to get the Name Resolution issue fixed.

Thanks,
FMustafa
