General Discussion / Manage kids devices.
September 12, 2022, 07:56:08 PM
So I have 2 kids and they both have multiple wired and wireless devices that I would like to disable/enable the internet at a moments notice.  I'm basically looking for guidance on how I should setup a group of their devices, either on a vlan with access to other ip's on the network for entertainment purposes.  Or if there is a group I can setup to manage all there devices.

All I need are some suggestions and maybe an idea of what to look for.  Then I'll do the reading.

General Discussion / Slow lan connectivity.
May 09, 2020, 06:22:17 AM
I'm having a issue with slow connectivity in my local network.  I've checked all my network adapters on all my servers, and their set to 1000baseT full-duplex.  But i'm only getting about 90Mbits/sec.

Does anyone have a suggest on what to look into next.

General Discussion / Re: Port 1194
May 08, 2020, 06:33:54 PM
Seems that I have resolved my own issue.  It simply led up to my ddns service didn't have a updated ip, and I assume thats due to me swapping out my opnsense box the other day.

Added Dynamic DNS settings, saved and forced update.  Then attempted to connect to the vpn on my data plan, and boom!

General Discussion / Port 1194
May 08, 2020, 05:58:11 PM
Ok, I for some reason can not port forward 1194.  I've got ahead and created a alias for my vpn server, and used the following setting for port forwarding.

Protocol: TCP
Destination: Wan Address
Destination port range: 1194:1194
Redirect target IP: Set to Alias
Redirect target port: 1194

But its still a no go.  I've checked using canyouseeme.org and the port isn't showing that it's open, and I am unable to connect to my vpn using cell data plan.  Any suggestions?

To start off, I've repurposed an old 1u server case for opnsense.  Everything is working fine, but I have one problem that is bugging me.  On the front of chassis I have two LEDs for Lan1 and Lan2, then there are two jumpers for those LEDS.  I've been hunting all day for dual port nics that support this feature without any luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a nic that will put an end to my suffering.  I know its dumb....

Nope, it's not going to sleep.  I have it constantly plugged into my monitor and it shows me the console.  But I haven't tried to login from console, only web and ssh.  At the moment I did disable IPv6, and so far so good.  But if it happens again I will try from the console.

20.1 Legacy Series / Internet goes down.

Hello,

I'm pretty new to opnsense, and I've run into a issue.  I was running v19 on a firebox but since swapped that out for a Dell Optiplex 390 and a Dual Gigabit Intel Pro card and installed OpnSense v20.

The problem is all of a sudden I will lose connectivity, hardwired and wireless.  I can't ssh in, no web gui nothing.  When I reboot the machine to attempt to look at any kind of logs or anything, I'm unable to find anything to give me an idea what is going on.

Could someone point me in the right direction.
