23.1 Legacy Series / Re: DNS issues since 23.1.6
April 21, 2023, 08:39:53 PM
Yes, I restarted the client (stb). DNS IP's I tried: 196.168.1.1 (=OPNsense), 1.1.1.2/1.0.0.2 and 195.121.1.34/195.121.1.66. The latter two I also tried with only 1 DNS entry (the first mentioned).

Well, I still have issues with my TV VLAN. Since the update to 23.1.6 my stb is not working anymore.
I had not specified a DNS server on this VLAN, however: if I add one it is still not working.
ISP is KPN in the Netherlands.

Thanks for the guide/help.
I get a notification in the AdGuard Home webinterface that v0.107.5 is now available: can I update directly from the AdGuard Home webinterface or should I wait until the package gets updated?
#4
I'll wait for the second hotfix...

Now I got no pictures at all.
No traffic from IPTV interface. Do have an IP address on IPTV interface (dhcp)
Upgraded to 21.1.6

When I switch to pfSense all is ok (no hardware or cable changes, only other vm and same configuration I think).

Anyone any idea what to check/configure?
Did you had pictures before?
I am struggling to get IPTV working via OPNsense. ISP: KPN (Netherlands), hw: Odroid H2.

20.7 Legacy Series / Adblocking: is it still in beta?
November 14, 2020, 08:08:15 AM
I've tried to set up adblocking within OPNsense, as a replacement for Pi-Hole, but came across some issues which have been addressed here already as well:
- not working;
- list are not updated; you have to set a separate cron job for it (and in my case it still didn't work);
- need to reboot first;
- lists are only updated if you untag enabled.
etc.

Is my perception that adblocking on OPNsense is not yet mature enough to use it?
I encourage adblocking within OPNsense as it would simplify my network and, in principle, it should be slightly faster.

If it should be able to proper use adblocking on OPNsense: what is the correct way to set it up? Which steps have to be taken?

I have an Odroid H2 and 250/50Mb/s internet connection. CPU load is <0.1%. I've read somewhere that Realtek 8111x max out at approx. 966Mb/s and might be less energy efficient than Intel NICs. The drivers are very stable: whatever you read on poor / unstable drivers is years old and not applicable anymore. For most users Realtek NICs are more than sufficient.
Half a year later the Odroid H2 is still very reliable, no issues at all. IMHO this is a very cost effective 2-NIC solution. Also: low power consumption.
Out of the box and I have a PNY CS3030 SSD installed.
Mildly OT: Does OPNsense run ooth or tweaks needed? Which storage do you use? SATA SSD?

Odroid H2 Might be a nice cheap sub itx platform for home use for those willing to risk Realtek NIC: https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-h2/
Realtek NICs aren't a risk anymore, since the use of new Realtek drivers a couple of years ago.
I have a Odroid H2 running for more than half a year now and had no issues at all.

General Discussion / Re: Install PiHole on Opnsense
November 18, 2019, 03:24:20 PM
Nice, but it would even be nicer if it was possible to have the generic black lists, personal black lists and personal white lists to be maintainable from the GUI. Personally, I don't need the full flashy Pi-Hole experience but easy maintainable lists are a must.
