General Discussion / Re: Help with the TOR plugin
August 03, 2019, 07:43:45 PM
Now I cant get it to start in order to test it. My error is:
don't know how to load module '/boot/kernel/kernel'
can't load 'kernel'

Maybe its a good time to replace my sd card with an msata ssd.
But about my TOR problem, I think that was the issue, because I did not add firewall rules, except allow all.
So I think then maybe my question was more about the firewall rules that I needed to get it working.
But can you say more about how I can forward the traffic from LAN to the TOR service?
Because TOR doesnt get an interface of its own, so then how do I redirect traffic to it?

I dont know if the settings configuration of the manually installed packages gets saved. Can you try and see?
I think the default configuration you can apply anywhere

maybe wireguard creates a virtual interface which gets by default the lan port,  and you should change that value manually to the wan port you want. I never used opnsense or wireguard though

Ah ok I get it. I thought you only wanted to increase the bandwidth of your laptop by using two networks as a single proxy.
These guys here say that no vpn solution at all can be combined with multipath TCP.
https://www.viprinet.com/en/technology/viprinet-vs-multipath-tcp
I also found a product for openwrt and debian called OpenMPTCProuter, that could work.
Probably MLVPN could be ported to freebsd/opnsense, as I think it can be popular for some.
I thought tinc was only used for setting up a network of devices connected by VPN.
Sorry I am the only one to reply. I only signed up because I needed some help.
I suggest that you also post in this reddit group until things pick up around here. https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/

What about using something like screen. Are you familiar with the screen command? I dont have other ideas
If it works, give me some karma or applause

As far as I know OpenVPN runs on virtual interfaces. You could make an up/down script that restarts that interface.

Hello. I am newb.
Excuse my ignorance but If this was possible, why didnt the vpn companies already think of this? I could connect to all their servers.
Why dont you setup vpn on both of those networks, and make a script to access the fastest one from your laptop?
Why would you have a part of your connection go through a slower route? Why wouldnt you simply pick the fastest route?
It would make sense only if the ISP was throttling your connection on one of those netowkrs when you use too much data.
In that case, you can set up a limited vpn connection between the two networks, and connect to the one that gives you more data.
Please explain your situation if I dont understand.

General Discussion / Help with the TOR plugin

Hi.
I am new to OPNsense and need some tips on routing all my traffic through TOR.
All the LAN traffic should go through TOR.
And the firewall setup should allow only traffic from the TOR service on WAN.

So far I had enabled the plugin and set it to listen on the LAN interface, but while I could see the TOR circuits formed in diagnostics,
my LAN traffic wasnt routed. I also tried to enable the 'Trasparent Proxy' option in 'advanced' and setup port forwarding, but failed.
A tutorial would help me a whole lot.
