I secure what I can using my Yubikeys, U2F is just the icing on the cake . Yubikeys do support OTP too, however I think U2F is the future and will hopefully be adapted and usable almost everywhere, so that would get myself up to speed implementation wise and it might help push U2F a bit more
I might still do this when I have some free-time at hand

The Proxmox IP isn't to be set from OPNsense.
You probably want the Proxmox HV and OPNsense to have their own static IPs.
To do that you bridge your network interface on the HV (Probably done already), assign a static IP to that bridge and assign the same bridge to the OPNsense VM. Configure OPNsense with it's own IP and you should be able to reach OPNsense and still be able to access Proxmox.
You can still use OPNsense as the default gw from Proxmox, but keep in mind that the HV won't be able to get out of the network if the OPNsense VM fails to start. (Could be relevant if you need remote eg. remote access)
