I would like VPN and non-VPN traffic to be shaped within the same pipe as to not exceed my upload bandwidth.

19.1 Legacy Series / Traffic Shaping and OpenVPN
May 11, 2019, 02:05:33 PM
I have 400/40 internet from my ISP. As such, I have traffic shaping enabled for uploads to avoid bufferbloat. This works very well. If I were to setup a OpenVPN client and selectively route traffic through the VPN tunnel, would the outbound VPN traffic automatically get traffic shaped also? If not what else would I need to do? I used the OPNsense documentation to setup my traffic shaping. I did not see any instructions around traffic shaping and VPN connections.

General Discussion / Re: ProxMox - Opnsense

I'm in the same situation. The VMs connected to my virtualized OPNsense LAN can get to the OPNsense webgui and ping external ip addresses, but they cannot resolve webpages. I know this is a DNS issue, but I haven't been able to figure it out.

I am also having this issue. My VM guests connected to my OPNsense VM cannot reach the internet. I am able to reach the OPNsense web GUI. If someone could post their /etc/network/interfaces config that has successfully gotten OPNsense to work on Proxmox, I would be most appreciative.

Here are the pictures of my configuration.
However I am not sure that it works as 100%.
What is in your "N_LOCALNETS" Alias? Mind sharing a screenshot?

virtio drivers.  It works way better than esxi which surprised me.

I sent a screenie to martin via email a while ago as well showing throughput vs cpu load, I will try and hunt it down for you.

Note this is over NAT as well.  As I started deploying it on hosts where the isp's have unfavourable terms on ipv4 allocation.
Thanks, I would love to see that.

Have these VPN routing issues been resolved? This thread has not had a lot of traffic in a couple of months. I have attempted many times to setup selective routing through PIA VPN on OPNsense without any luck.
Hoping someone will post an update tutorial on how to accomplish this.

Did you passthrough to your NICs or did you get those results using the Virtio network drivers? I'm curious as I currently have a Proxmox box I'm not getting much use out of that I would like to run OPNsense on.

I finally got 19.1.b_360 installed with 11.2 HBSD and restored from my back up.

I did a check updates again and got this (yes I did reboot several times)

Will this downgrade my 19.1 to 18.7.6 or am I reading this wrong?
I sure seem to be making big messes the last few days :)

Funny I came on the forums to ask the same question. I just flashed the new 19.1 beta image this evening.

Updated to 18.1.11 and am still having issues getting OpenVPN (PIA) working like I had it on pfSense.
I hope this How-To gets updated to include detailed instructions on how to route specific traffic over VPN on OPNsense 18.1.X.
