If you want WIFI support either use a dedicated WIFI access point, alternatively switch to OpenWRT.  😂

Please note: "Use a dedicated WIFI access point" has become the standard response on both PFSENSE and OPNSENSE forums for years now.

Look up pretty much any integrated WIFI query post on either sites forums and that's all you will ever see people say in response to anyone enquiring about modern integrated WIFI in conjunction with PFSENSE and OPNSENSE firewall routers. So please note that down so you yourself can pass the message on to the next person who enquires about modern integrated WIFI on these platforms.

Please also note: You've got more chance of finding gold at the end of a rainbow than you have of seeing a modern integrated WIFI solution working perfectly on PFSENSE and OPNSENSE firewall routers, either that or more chance of winning the national lottery jackpot in a lottery that you didn't even enter. 😁

Yes, a few ancient WIFI devices kind of work on both PFSENSE and OPNSENSE but they tend to perform abysmal for the most part, so yeah use a dedicated WIFI access point until mankind can find a way to make modern internal WIFI devices work.

Recognized the slow Gui as well. DNS Lookup to FW Hostname is working ok.
Deleted all Logs, slowness still persists.

Have still these errors in System: Log Files: Web GUI

2022-12-05T11:06:05 Error lighttpd (server.c.1588) server started (lighttpd/1.4.67)
2022-12-05T11:06:05 Error lighttpd (server.c.2097) server stopped by UID = 0 PID = 80455
2022-12-04T14:15:51 Error lighttpd (server.c.1588) server started (lighttpd/1.4.67)
2022-12-04T14:15:51 Error lighttpd (server.c.2097) server stopped by UID = 0 PID = 34252

In my Case when I connect via IP Address to the Box the GUI is reacting fast..., connecting via FW Hostname is still slow...

I have the exact same problem

I had a certain level of success with the following:

Model: Qualcomm Atheros Wireless NFA222
Chipset: Atheros AR9462
Port type: m.2

It works okay on a clean install and it's pretty stable and capable of operating in Access Point mode.

Only downside is it can't do simultaneous 2.4 and 5Ghz mode, but to be honest I don't suppose many cards can, if any.  I'm pretty sure you need two separate WIFI cards to do that.

I need to buy an MPCIE WiFi card for a specific use case.

I know it's preferred to use dedicated separate WIFI Access Points with OpnSense and Pfsense which is why I have a few Deco M5 in use with my other box at home.

But I'd still like to try establish which MPCIE WiFi card are widely being used among the few try hards that have gone against the wind and installed them in their opnsense boxes

Please include model numbers if poss

Any recommendations?

Hi all
Just started to use opnsense everything went smoothly but there is one thing I ran into.
Powerd is not doing anything it is enabled and set to adaptive ( but any other shows the same result )
My cpu speed is constanly at 2 ghz.
My temps are not that bad 51 idle and with load around 70 degrees.
But I woud like to be as energie efficiƫnt as possible.
Intel c states and intel speedstepping are enabled.
My unit is a Topton n5105 with 4 intel i226 nics.
Hope somebody can help me.

I think I'll stick to what I know and not install it, that solves that one then. :))

Is it safe to use the SunnyValley Next Generation Firewall Extensions / Plugin for OPNsense (ZENARMOR).

Plugins:
os-sensei
os-sensei-updater
os-sunnyvalley

Do we know if they collect data from our routers, if so what, and has anyone actually vetted the software properly to see what's collected if anything?

I only ask as i usually use all the usual stuff on opnsense and pfsense and have never used ZenArmor before, any ideas?

Guys, I've got Home Assistant setup and working via my Opnsense router, DuckDNS and Lets Encrypt, enabling me to remotely access my Home Assistant securely with encryption while I'm out and about (outside my home network), which is great.

I'd like to be able to access my personal ******@duckdns.org URL securely over my 'local network' too whilst maintaining the secure HTTPS certification.   I know it can be done via this router or pfsense but I just cant find a tutorial explaining the correct procedure.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please.   ;)

20.7 Legacy Series / Opnsense + Pihole Host Name Query?
October 24, 2020, 08:33:58 PM
Can anyone tell me if theirs a way to forward HOST name information from my Opnsense routers DHCP services on to my PiHole.  I can only ever get CLIENT IP address information when viewing PiHoles query log.  I have to keep looking up what IP belongs to what device via Opnsense DHCP list each time I'm investigating alerts and stuff on PiHole.

It would be nice if I could as I don't really want to keep logging in to one device and then having to log in to the another for confirmation.

Hi guys I've been using OPNSENSE with an internal m.2 Qualcomm Atheros Wireless NFA222 card (Atheros AR9462) all the way up to OpnSense 20.1 and its been working perfectly fine.  I've recently upgraded from 20.1 up to 20.7.3 and it was still functioning fine for days.

I decided to do a Reset to factory defaults now my system was upgraded and start a fresh, only to find that is not properly detecting my WIFI card properly now, or allowing me to configure it.

Does anyone know if the Devs have removed anything from 20.7.3 that might have been available in 20.1 which might be causing this?

Am I going to need to start looking for Atheros files and including them in 20.7.3?  :)
