I need to buy an MPCIE WiFi card for a specific use case.

I know it's preferred to use dedicated separate WIFI Access Points with OpnSense and Pfsense which is why I have a few Deco M5 in use with my other box at home.

But I'd still like to try establish which MPCIE WiFi card are widely being used among the few try hards that have gone against the wind and installed them in their opnsense boxes

Please include model numbers if poss

Any recommendations?

MPCIE wise, I would say, stay away from Realtek, RTL8821CE specifically.
I am having moderate success with a Qualcomm Atheros AR9287 (Although I have a lot of Errors In/Out).
I have a few Intel MPCIE cards on their way, however.
The AR9287 arrived first.

Here's what I have: https://bsd-hardware.info/?probe=08d2539153
Aside from the WiFi, everything looks fine.

I had a certain level of success with the following:

Model: Qualcomm Atheros Wireless NFA222
Chipset: Atheros AR9462
Port type: m.2

It works okay on a clean install and it's pretty stable and capable of operating in Access Point mode.

Only downside is it can't do simultaneous 2.4 and 5Ghz mode, but to be honest I don't suppose many cards can, if any.  I'm pretty sure you need two separate WIFI cards to do that.
