Hi All

I recently purchased a ubiquity unifi access point. I was disappointed to discover that it has no web UI and you have to install the controller software on a local computer, I got this working but was thinking is it possible to either install opnsense on the access point or perhaps better yet (possibly via a plugin) to setup/manage the AP from a opnsense box.

There is no official FreeBSD package for the UniFi controller software.
It's in Ports, but imo very annoying to setup.

Mine is run in a VM running Ubuntu Server.

Also, you clearly did not read up on how to manage UbiQuiti Access Points before you bought their AP.
Which is quite amazing as it's mentioned pretty much everywhere.

Hobbyist at home, sysadmin at work. Sometimes the first is mixed with the second.

Hi,
1. You need the Uniquiti Controller only for the first config of the AP. Afterwards thr AP working without the controller.
2. If you want you can install the Uniquiti controller software on a raspberry Pi. There are some manuals how it works into web.

Dirk

Thanks for the replies, I will use a vm in the future.

Not 100% sure but I think you can do the initial AP config from your Android phone also with the app UniFi.

I'm also running my UniFi controller from a Ubuntu VM in XenServer.

If you only have to configure one AP, Android app is able to do it.
