Can anyone recommend a low profile 4 port Intel NIC that is known to work well with suricata and can be installed in a workstation/desktop system?

You don't mention which type of slot is being used but if you search ebay for "quad port intel low profile" (without the quotes) you'll find a wealth of options. I always buy my NICs (always intel) from ebay and never have any problems with them.
