Port Forwarding
« on: September 18, 2018, 01:41:03 am »
Hi Guys. A newbie in Opnsense firewall and networking stuff. Still learning. Currently just switch from USG to Opnsense. I have to do a port forwarding for my cctv to do remote viewing. I input my own Dynamic Dyn already and did the required Port forwarding. It sort of works. However I’m facing this single issue. When I’m connected to my house WiFi, I can’t view it. But when I use my mobile data, I can view. Any advice where went wrong? My previous USG setup did not have this issue.

Possibly because your using the fqdn i.e. cameras.mydomain.com to connect to the cameras, that will resolve as an external IP when you are using your wifi, hence no connection. There are a couple of ways to resolve it, my preferred method is to use a DNS override so that when you are connected via the LAN it gets the local address.

Go to Services->Unbound DNS->Overides and add a new entry. Here's an example I use for my test router so it resolves to the local address.

Don't forget to flushdns on your LAN devices ( PCs ) after you do this.
