Port forwarding problems

Hey all,
I am currently in the process of setting up a test environment for Opnsense and I can't seem to get NAT port forwarding working.
My setup is as follows:
System running Windows Server 2012 R2, Opnsense virtual in Hyper-V. Other than that, a Windows 10 Pro VM is running.
The machine has 2 NICs in it, one set up for WAN, one for LAN. Regular internet connectivity such as browsing is no problem.
I've tried setting up NAT port forward rules for both MS RDP and FTP, but both don't work.
If I look under Firewall>Log files>normal view, I can see that there's incoming traffic for the applications I try to use and they get passed, but I can't seem to get a working connection.
I've followed the Pfsense guide for setting up a NAT port forward rule, which seems to apply here as well.
Something worth noting, the "WAN" IP is an IP address assigned by the DHCP server in my regular network. My regular network is also where I'm trying to connect from. The LAN side of my Opnsense machine uses a different IP range than my normal network.
Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction?
EDIT: I seem to have found the solution in this topic:

The user has a similar situation as me. Once I did some additional forwarding on my router and tried it from a different external IP address, it works like a charm.
