Ddclient - no global IP address detected

Hi,

I updated to version 26.7.4. Afterward, I noticed that my WireGuard VPN was no longer establishing a handshake.
After some troubleshooting, I found an error message from ddclient:

"no global IP address detected."

However, the ddclient settings show my current IP address; it is only on DuckDNS that my old IP address is still listed—meaning it is no longer being updated.
Before the update, everything had been running perfectly for months without any changes.

Do you have any ideas on what I can do?

As stupid as it sounds: wait until it fixes itself. I had the same issue during the last weeks with dynv6.com: first, the addresses kept resolving to the old one, then after a few days the entire hostname resolution failed. Luckily, the IPv4 fallback had come back from a similar failure a month ago, so I postponed the troubleshooting, and just today, the hostname came back online. My experience is that these dynamic DNS providers tend to have such issues every couple years, and unless you have some sort of priority access, you can only wait them out.

The only thing you could try on your end is to change the way your ddns client figures out its address, so, change the interface to monitor between "WAN" and the interface name (idk if you actually can enter this there), and also the "Check IP method". Maybe the provider you chose for that is down.

From what I understood DuckDNS is even known for it...

IMHO it's best to simply have such a service from the hosting company where your domain is hosted to avoid unnecessary issues and to have someone you can actually talk to within a reasonable time frame should things go wrong :)

Rent a cloud VPC for a fiver per month, establish outbound VPN tunnel to that, use fixed IP address of VPC for all ingress. :-)

Not sure if they still support it though, but there are hosting companies out there which have something similar AFAIK :)
