Upgrade 26.1 -> 26.7 boot stuck at root mount waiting for CAM

I am currently running opnsense on two hp dl360 g9's. They both have the latest bios and ilo firmwares.
When i try to upgrade from 26.1 to 26.7, it downloads and extracts the update but when it reboots it gets stuck at boot with a repeating message of "Root mount waiting for: CAM".
I have tried to leave it for up to 30 minutes but it still keeps looping and displaying the message. I have tried to use both bios and uefi boot, but that doesn't change the result.

I am however able to select the backup partition from the bootloader and it boots normally without the "Root mount waiting for: CAM" message.

I have attached the faulty 26.7 boot logs and the normal 26.1.11 boot logs.

Looks like FreeBSD 15.1 fails to detect the virtual volumes or disk drives presented by your HP smart array controller.

The ciss(4) driver is problematic to say the least, due to the lack if vendor support.

You might want to take this to the freebsd-stable or freebsd-scsi mailing lists. It's clearly a regression.

While Deciso/OPNsense occasionally (and probably more frequently than they'd like to) fix upstream problems in the networking subsystem, I doubt RAID controller support is in the scope of OPNsense.

Or you should take a look at the release notes?

Especially where it reads:

o The CPU microcode early loading has been known to be flaky on some setups.  A fix is in the FreeBSD 15.1 boot loader code, but can only be reached by reinstall or manually updating the boot code of your system after the upgrade succeeded.  If you want to be on the safe side during the upgrade itself please remove the plugin before proceeding.

It's not hanging at the point at which systems impacted by the microcode issue generally do. But it might be worth a try.
